Paula Abdul was originally hired as the film's Executive Producer, Fashion Designer, and Dance Choreographer. During an episode of her reality television series Hey Paula (2007), she received an e-mail on her Blackberry firing her from this movie.
Susie Singer Carter wrote the final screenplay for the film, but lost credit in Writers Guild arbitration, to the bewilderment of the producers and director. Her name appears as Screenwriter on the final movie poster. She also forfeited her Associate Producer title when she entered into the arbitration, which resulted in the loss of both credits. The only credit she has left in the film is an acting role, as Meredith's mother Barbara Baxter Dimly. Susan Estelle Jensen received the final credit as screenwriter.
Anneleise Van der Pol and Andrea Edwards (who also makes her film debut here) were on the popular Disney show That's So Raven (2003). Coincidentally, John Coda, from the Music Department of this movie, also worked on That's So Raven (2003).
As a result of this film's critical and financial failure, it became one of the most nominated movies of 2007 for the Golden Raspberry awards (the anti-Oscars that award bad movies), being nominated for a whopping 5 awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Actress for all 4 leading actresses playing the Bratz, Worst Supporting Actor for Jon Voight, Worst Screen Couple for \"Any combination of two totally air-headed characters\", and Worst Remake or Rip-off (\"a rip-off if there ever was one\"). In a rare instance, this film won none of the Razzies it was nominated for.
The movie follows Cloe, Sasha, Yasmin and Jade as they go through high school. After being broken up on the first day, Yasmin decided to take the initiative and bring her group back together and show Meredith and her Girl Posse that she doesn't rule the school.
From plastic toys to animated show to live action movie, these dolls with 'tude are taking the 'tween market by force. In this silver screen version, The Bratz find their friendship in jeopardy when they get involved in separate cliques at the same high school.
Surely though, with millions of dollars in sales, someone is bringing the Bratz home. And in an era when a movie can be more about marketing than it is about storyline, it seemed only a matter of time until the girls should venture onto the big screen. The problem was how to bring those flaunting fashionistas to life and still earn a PG rating that would allow their hordes of little fans to see their film.
Cliques are a major theme in the movie. Why do people form cliques Can a person be a member of only one interest group Does the constant portrayal of cliques in movies reinforce the idea in a real high school setting
John Voight stars in another teen story about a young boy who is wrongfully sent to a juvenile detention camp in the movie Holes The made-for-TV Disney special High School Musical has a positive portrayal of kids breaking free of cliques. 59ce067264
